The serpent hike is very easy but very rewarding hike on Bjelašnica mountain. Before starting the hike we will stop at Dolovi stećci necropolis, a medieval necropolis dating back to 13th century which will be inscribed as UNESCO world heritage site this year. Here we will learn the histry of the place we will hike today.
After, we will drive to Umoljani highland village nearby for the start of our hike. After a short walk we will get to the great serpent - Ažbaha, to tell the amazing legent of the birth of Umoljani village. We will then pass through Gradina - highland summer village, and the oldest settlement on Bjelašnica before continuing to Studeni Potok stream.
The beautiful stream takes us to a series of small waterfalls that fall 402m down into Rakitnica canyon. Right there on the edge of the canyon we will make a picnic break. We will then make a circle around Orlovac peak to get to Sedrenik stream and its seven mills.
From there we will continue towards Umoljani village mosque to hear the recent story of the life of the village and make a full circle at the starting point.
An easy and very revarding day hike. Hence the popularity. It takes us on the beautiful southern slopes of Bjelašnica, all the way to the edge of Rakitnica canyon.You will learn about the life, history and legends of the highlanders, and their dependancy and conection to the nature.
